Marine Life of Goa

Marine Life of Goa is an open, community-driven project to explore and understand the coastal biodiversity of the state of Goa.

The Project

Goa’s probably best known for its beaches but these beaches holds a secret only a few know about. Based on the Marine Life of Mumbai model of outreach and citizen science, we aim to introduce her people to the marine life they share their shores with.

Project Scope

Shorewalks

Marine Life of Goa conducts guided exploratory shorewalks focused on marine biodiversity and the intertidal habitat. Through these walks, we help people from all backgrounds to not just discover wildlife living just at their doorsteps.

Online Outreach

Our primary channels of online outreach are our social media. Our posts make scientific information palatable to a non-scientific audience using visuals as the primary medium.

Data Collection

MLOG’s citizen-sourced & open-access biodiversity data, which showcases the richness of intertidal marine species in Goa, sits on iNaturalist.org, a global platform that encourages citizen science, knowledge sharing & scientific accuracy.
